The Women's squad at RRC is a competitive racing squad in both sweep and sculling, and is growing year on year. Everyone gets plenty of opportunities to race at their own level and have some fun along the way. We enter a variety of head races and regattas that cater to all levels within the women's squad. We have members who are keen to race at the top-level events such as Met Regatta, Scullers Head, and Henley Women's Regatta and we have other members who prefer to set their sights on the next tier of events such as Kingston Head, Henley 4s and 8s and Oxford City Regatta.
Our squad is designed for more experienced athletes who have been rowing for over a year and are comfortable with the idea of competing. We are primarily a sweep-focused squad, although we do have some rowers who choose to focus on sculling. Our coaching program allows us to cater to both and help athletes achieve their goals.
Despite being sweep focussed, we do require all members of the Women’s Squad to be proficient in a sculling boat, minimum being a double (2x), as there may be times when rowers will need to row in a sculling boat. At the first instance, it may be necessary for new members to join the Improvers Squad for a short time to get up to speed.
Our weekday training generally consists of two ergs and two strength sessions, with rooms reserved for these at the club. Over the summer, two of these sessions are water-based. We have four water sessions over the weekend mornings.
We welcome anyone with experience to get in touch with us and come down for a trial session. We are a lovely squad who are very welcoming and enthusiastic about new members. We hope to hear from you soon!
