The Women’s squad at Reading RC is a competitive racing squad in both sweep and sculling, and is growing year on year. Everyone gets plenty of opportunities to race at their own level and have some fun along the way. We enter a variety of head races and regattas to cater to all levels within the women’s squad.
The Women’s squad regularly enters top-level, performance events such as the Tideway Heads, Met Regatta and Henley Women’s Regatta alongside those more local races such as Henley 4s and 8s Head and Oxford City Regatta for some fun pot hunting.
Our squad is best suited for more those athletes who have been rowing for over a year and are comfortable with competing. We are primarily a sweep-focused squad, although some rowers focus on sculling.
Despite being sweep focussed, we do require all members of the Women’s Squad to be proficient in a sculling boat, minimum being a double (2x), as there may be times when rowers will need to row in a sculling boat. At the first instance, it may be necessary for new members to join the Development Squad for a short time to get up to speed.
The Senior Women’s weekly training programme consists of:
2x ergs
2x strength sessions
5x water sessions (including double sessions on Saturday and Sunday)
With no formal joining requirements, we welcome anyone with experience to get in touch with us and come down for a trial session. We are a lovely and very welcoming squad, and hope to hear from you soon!
